Hi Sam,
I found your site which is a long story. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your memories and wonder if you remember the person that sold you the hearse. It was my father. He is 82 now and still recalls selling the hearse to you. He was impressed when you came to buy the hearse. You gave him a 45 record, Wooly Bully. If I recall correctly you sign the cover. Anyway, Dad came home told us about you and how nice you were. Then he pulled out a record and gave it to my brother and me. It was the 45 of Wooly Bully. We sure have fond memories playing that record and dancing. It wasn’t long after we played it that we heard it on the radio. WOW we were so excited.

If you ever have time I would love for Dad and I to meet or talk to you. Thanks for the great memories Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs created for me.
God Bless

Sam I know this is a strange entry for your guestbook but I am doing some research. My husband swears he played the upright bass on the recording or "Wooly Bully". He was a studio musician in Memphis his name was "Red Wayne" or Kenneth Wayne Henderson. Most people call him "Red" His instruement of choice is the Steel Guitar. He was a local DJ at Kwam in memhis. Let me know if it is true can't find anything one way or another on the net.

Hello Sam the Sham

I only wish I would of snapped to the name when you told me I would of told you how much the song Wolly Bully means so much to me and my family. Growing up I had a uncle who has Down Syndrome. He is 60 years of age. As a child my uncle was my protector when me and my mom would take my grandmother and him to the doctor. It was funny because the two of us were wanting the same toys as each other only difference was I was 5 and he was in his early 30's. But the one good memory that I have that I miss so much of my uncle is that when Wolly Bully came on he would get up and dance. See my uncle's name is Manuel Diaz, but for short all my family would call him Bully. So when I would hear that song or anyone would hear that song they knew to turn up the volume and let Manuel dance.

But this memory is just a memory last year Manuel got really sick and well he can no longer walk and is in a wheel chair. But if he still hears that song he will dance from the waist up and still bring a smile to everyone's faces.

So Sam the Sham as long as I live and as long as they continue to play Wolly Bully there will be a place for my uncle and your song for the rest of my life.

So Thank you Sam Thank you

I heard your interview on QVo radio. I enjoyed your poetry. You are a powerful writer, enjoy what you have written here and in the liner notes of one of your old albums. I especially like your philosophy on making a clean break out. The part about leaving with your head high as if you are leading a parade. Tambien what you wrote about every time someone did something bad to you, it led to a better thing.
Listen, I'm a huge Santana fan. I loved the story about the poem that you wrote for him. I post at this site:

It is called Moonflower Cafe. It is a place where many hardcore Santana fans meet and share stories about that great band. We also discuss Latin rock, of which you are a pioneer. I'd like to invite you to drop by and say hello. Maybe you can share your poem and the story with us. By the way, que paso con la carrosa?

How well I remember when I was only 9 years old listening to a cheap hand held transister radio in my bedroom in Lubbock Texas around 1966 when I first heard Little Red Riding Hood. I loved it at age 9 and I love it now. I didn't know at the time that you had also done Wooly Bully - but I found out probably around 1967 (as a kid the two records sounded totally different so I didn't make the connection). But I loved both of them. I never heard Ring Dang Do or Ju Ju Hand or any of your other hits when I was a kid. I came across them about 2 years ago and once again experienced the same magic that I did at age 9. There was so much great music back then. I always wanted to meet the singers and songwriters who made that music, but as time went by I realized that I never would. But thanks to the internet I can at least say "thank you" for giving us these gifts that have lasted for over 40 years. Thanks Sam. I only wish I could give back to you the joy your music has given to me.
