I believe the first songs I can remember are from your second album. My 8 years older brother had it on 8 track, and I wore it out. I can still
recall the words to The Gypsy, Old Black Magic, etc. I probably listened more to that album than any other.

Thanks for the memories. and If you have a copy I'd love to get a copy of it for my own kids, who grew up on your music. My son knew the words to Lil' Red Riding Hood before he ever had the story read to him in pre-school. He shocked the teachers by singing the whole thing while everybody listened and laughed.

Thanks for the music.

Hey Sam,
I was the guy who produced and engaged you for the Liebes Battle of the Bands at the Cow Palace Auditorium in San Francisco in I guess '65 or so. You were on the bill with The Turtles and Bob Kuban and the InMen (The Cheater) along with sixty or so aspiring garage bands. I loved your song then and like it even more today which is why I am writing. A bunch of us play gospel, bluegrass, tex-mex, rockabilly and classic country pro-bono at a senior center here in Tampa Bay. I sing and play strictly rhythm guitar no lead, and want to sing Wooly Booly backing myself up on guitar. I know the chords but if you were just playing acoustic guitar with a mike pickup, how would you suggest I get your organ riff style on the guitar without a keyboard as we are all string acoustic? I know I will make a couple hundred "seniors" very happy if I could bring them something faintly close to your rendition.

Sam,
I just stumbled onto you site in the most indirect manner, must have been divine intervention. I'm 53 years old & was born, raised, & lured back to South Texas to raise my boys with my South Texas born & raised latina wife. I have nothing but the finest memories of listening to you on the Am radio stations in McAllen, KRIO, Corpus Christi, & San Antonio. My older sister and I would sing a long to all your songs at the top of our lungs while riding in the backseat of our folks car, traveling from McAllen to Pawnee & Kenedy, TX to visit our grandparents. I used to run home to watch all the "Teen Dance shows", I was & still not much of a dancer, but I watched to see bands like yours perform. I dreamed of having a band of my own but not for fame & fortune, I thought being able to perform was the ultimate expression of ones creativity. I tried piano first, but quit before I hurt myself, lack of coordination. Shortly after I picked up my dad's old guitar and painfully taught myself to play. My grandfather played in a band, my dad played as well, I have played nearly everyday of my life since early on and have had several bands I'm not ashamed of being in & we always play "Wooly Bully". Both my boys are gifted musicians and play regularly.
My wife and I live outside of town on our little Ranchita. If you are ever in the neighborhood get in touch, my suegra lives with us & has a couple goats you can rope and milk if you don't mind risking you life & limb.
Keep up the good work, I catch myself singing "Lil' Red Riding Hood" while working around our place on the tractor.

Love your stuff,

Tim & Jeannette Smith from Mission, Texas
