My concern is with the lyrics in the second verse of “wooly bully.” My roommate says the lyrics go “let’s not be observers, come and learn to dance,” which makes sense, however as I find it printed on about every website I can find that has the printed lyrics posted it reads not “observers,” but “L-7.” Are the lyrics actually “L-7”?? What does that mean? My email is:

We loved your stories and could have listened for hours. You are an inspiration! We have been blessed in our lives to meet people like you who know what is important and who make a difference for others. What a great group of "high school" friends you have! We enjoyed meeting them. Maybe we'll see you next year in T-ride and teach you to ski! We will keep an eye out for your book of poetry.

YOU SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER WRITING A BOOK ON THE STORY OF SAM THE SHAM AND THE PHAROAHS HIGHLIGHTING THAT PERFORMANCE ON HULLABALOO, THE EXCITEMENT, BEING ON THE SAME STAGE WITH FRANKIE AVALON, THE BYRDS AND THE SUPREMES. WHAT A EXCITEMENT THAT WOULDVE BEEN HAVING A HIT LIKE THAT THEN PERFORMING IT. A GREAT STORY I'M SURE OF EVERYTHING THAT WAS HAPPENING AT THE TIME AND WHAT LED TO IT, THE FORMING OF THE BAND ETC. Hello Sam,
Not many people know that you performed at a concert in Anchorage, Alaska early on. It was sometime between 1969 and 1972 (it's hard for me to remember exactly; I'm sixty now and a child of the 60's). It was a special treat for me to see and hear you, as I performed in Anchorage in '65 and '66 with my band and we did Wooly Bully and Little Red Riding Hood in our sets and usaually had to perform both of them by request two or three times a night. If I'm not mistaken (again the memory) The Bee Gees also performed at that concert. Another treat for me because I also performed some of their songs.
Thanks for all the wonderful memories and music.
A Long time fan,

Hi Sam, You might remember me - I was the tenor sax player in your backup band hired for a gig at the Playboy Club in Lawton, OK back in the earlier 70's. The band I was in (while I was in between classes at UNT) played the Loser's Club In Dallas - the frontman you knew-Freddy Empire. The booking guy was a Tony Catterin or something like that. You once told me "You play one of the best FLUTE solos I ever heard." Well, we show up for the gig and we got on stage, no charts, nothing, and you say "okay, let's go...wooly bully." We all look at each other and mumble "okay....what key?" End of story, it was a fun 2 weeks. If any of this jogs your memory, let me know. Lot of crazy memories, but had a great time. PS from John Morgan: Are you still in contact with Brenda? I am fairly sure that you must be, as you guys shared a child together. Brenda was fun to work with. I can't remember the nightclub name, but we did the St. Patricks Day "Pub Crawl" in 1984 at Overton Square. I would guess that the child you & Brenda had back then has long since grown up and made you a grandpa. I hate that we lost touch, but I left Memphis for good in 1985 when I got a job playing keybords for Earl Thomas Connaly, who at that time had multiple singles on billboard's Country Hot 100. He was based out of Ft. Worth at the time, so I moved my family there, so I wouldn't have the 7 hour drive to Memphis after the bus rolled into Ft. Worth.
Even though I feel kind of cheated out of many years , I can honestly say, I feel that very few people ever have the fun that I have. It's been a great life, up untill 3 years ago when I had bladder cancer. The chemo treatments made me sicker than I had ever been in my entire life. I was forced to retire from the music business, because of this. But there is nothing that equals the fun of walking out on a stage in front of 10's of thousands of people. Even though I'll never see my 55th birthday, I have had experiences that only one in a million musicians have. You inspired me to keep my feet on the ground and my head out of the clouds, no matter what level of success I achieved. Your friendly, caring personality was so contagious that I caught it and carried it around throughout my career. Whether or not you remember our brief acqauaintance, your demeanor rubbed off on me and stayed there until this day.

At one time I contacted a Samudio in San Jose, believe he was a dentist, and I got connected back with Agnes who has always gone by the name Samudio. Agnes and Johnny met each other back in the 60s and lived together up until few years back; they were never married, so never divorced. They still have their home in San Jose and Johnny stays there. Agnes was still living with her oldest girl last I knew. (few years ago now) All the girls's names start with a T; Tiffany, Tanya,
Tasady and one other which I can not recall right now.

Let me know if you have any phone #s for Agnes or any of her girls or can get them for me. John's land-plone phone rings but never an answer, think he keeps it unplugged and uses a cell. Dunno! I have tried all hours, no answer.

I need to tell Agnes her Aunt Irene died this July.
